An infected pork product was probably the source of the swine fever outbreak, according the State Veterinary Service. This preliminary conclusion was welcomed by British producers as implicitly blaming imported pigmeat. Government scientists were reported to have dismissed suggestions the disease could have been passed from local wild boar.
