Consumers have voted posh girl-about-town Tara Palmer-Tomkinson Britain’s plummiest person in a poll to celebrate the launch of British Plum Month.

During the fruit’s celebratory month, the public will be encouraged to enjoy the traditional British plum varieties Opal, Marjory and Victoria, supported by supermarket tastings, promotions and recipe leaflets.

The National Farmers’ Union horticulture board chairman, Graham Ward, said: “British plums are sweet and juicy.

“We want to make sure everyone gets a great British plum in their mouth this summer.”
