In the Netherlands a few farms were placed under restriction after pig feed was found to contain the banned hormone growth promoter MPA. Pigmeat exports were not banned, yet the incident was said by traders in the UK to have put a little upward pressure on Dutch product prices. Some disruption also occurred in the British pig sector following the discovery of half a dozen suspected cases of Aujeszky's Disease among stock at an Essex slaughterhouse late last month. This livestock illness, not dangerous to consumers but regarded in the industry as a commercial threat like swine fever or the wasting diseases, was declared not present after the Veterinary Laboratories Agency found initial test results were false positives. {{MEAT }}
