Wines from Portugal were showcased last week at the first tasting event to be held by a newly formed group of independent winemakers from the country.
The Independent Winegrowers Association of Portugal held its début event at the Portuguese ambassador’s residence in London to promote the diversity of styles between the different regions.
The six members of the
group showcased nearly 60 wines and Ports from a range of vintages and grape varietals.
IWA of Portugal’s chairman, Luis Pato, said: “Our wines show an oenological journey through geography, viticulture and viniculture, as well as the diverse personalities and objectives of each producer.”
One producer who hopes to develop listings within the off-trade is Nuno Araujo from Quinta de Covela.
The Covela range displayed modern colourful labelling to distinguish between the different blends.
“We redesigned the labels in 2000 to make them more eye-catching,” said Araujo.
