Potato growers are still facing difficult conditions with the main crop, reports the British Potato Council. In its weekly report it says some crops are already showing signs of stress and irrigation is already in use in many regions. Lifting of earlies is progressing although current yields of 28-30 tonnes/ hectares are still down on last season. Dealers are now chasing early crops as stored ware comes to a close. The Jersey season is reaching its end with 41,200 tonnes having been shipped, only 700 tonnes less than last year at the same time. Britanny has only exported half its anticipated harvest with 50,000 tonnes left. In some cases prices were below production. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
