The milk powder trade is still firming. Bulk SMP is trading at around £1,690/tonne, up from £1,340/t on March 15 and set to continue. "When I ask the office for a powder quote now, they'll ask me if it's for a regular customer," an ingredients trader told The Grocer. "If I say no', then that's the end of the affair. There just isn't any spare. The manufacturers have had very cheap prices for the last year or so but now they're paying a fairer price. Not excessive, but fair." There are no signs that the fat content is being offered for butter making, either. There are enough cheesemakers out trying to assemble the makings of a batch of cheese that this secondary market is tightening, too. {{PROVISIONS }}
