Associated British Foods is reported to be preparing a £300m bid for Aviagen, the world’s leading chicken breeding business, the Sunday Telegraph said.

Genetically modified crops are "not necessary" to feed mankind, Michael Meacher, the environment minister, has claimed.
In an interview with Ecologist magazine Meacher said he worried about "unpredictable consequences" of GM technology decades in the future.
The Sunday Times reported that his stance raised fears with his colleagues that he may resign as he is critical of the Prime Minister’s campaign to promote GM technology.
