Supermarkets are being forced to consider different vegetable suppliers due to the heatwave, as prices of fresh greens and potatoes have soared.
The Times reported that broccoli on sale this week in M&S is being flown over from the US and is being bought from South Africa for Sainsbury.

The Financial Times said that Tony Blair’s hopes of advancing GM technology are “set to be dealt a significant blow” since an independent commission cannot agree how GM plants can be grown alongside conventional varieties.
Blair’s ministers were relying on the commission to produce proposals on how to introduce the crops next year.
