A spirits supplier is claiming a world first with the launch of Fair, a Fairtrade-certified vodka that contains quinoa grain sourced from a community of independent farmers in Bolivia.

Produced by The Fairtrade Spirits Company, which launched earlier this year, premium spirit Fair (rsp: £29.95) rolls out to Wholefoods Market and Harvey Nichols in January.

The launch of Fair provided the Bolivian farmers with a further opportunity to sell their Fairtrade-accredited quinoa, which is already used for food products, said Richard Anstead, head of product management for grocery at the Fairtrade Foundation.

The Fairtrade Spirits Company company also plans to launch a range of Fairtrade-certified spirits, including goji berry liqueur and a coffee spirit.
