A group of 20 organic dairy farmers has launched a PR campaign to encourage processors and consumers to buy organic milk.

The North West Organic Milk Producers' Group will meet retailers and dairy processors and attend consumer events such as food fairs.

The campaign is being backed by Defra, the Soil Association, the North West Organic Centre and Dairy Farmers of Britain.

Producers' group marketing manager Stuart Martin said: "At the end of the 1990s the organic milk market was awash and the price slumped.

"However, now consumer demand is growing and the challenge is to match supply with demand."
