Blakemore Wholesale has invested £1m in its Penrith depot to grow its sales across Cumbria and the Lake District.
The depot will undergo a full refurbishment and rebranding to serve the foodservice tourism and retail industries since the Blakemore acquisition of catering wholesaler Lowries Wholesale in 2013.
The Penrith depot will now feature dual Blakemore Wholesale and Blakemore Foodservice branding and will target hotels, bed & breakfasts, caterers and local businesses across the region.
The refurbishment will allow Blakemore to grow staff numbers from 15 to 50 warehouse, transport and sales staff in the future.
A new butchery, fresh fruit & veg offering and enhanced frozen and chilled range will be added during the refurbishment alongside a new 300-pallet capacity freezer and fleet of multi-temperature vehicles to serve foodservice customers.
“Our long-term strategy is to grow our current customer base of retailers and caterers in addition to targeting the hospitality and tourism market in the area,” said Blakemore Foodservice sales and marketing director Jim Dudley.
“We have already undertaken a large sales drive in February where we met with guesthouses, hotels, bed & breakfasts, restaurants and takeaways to provide a full foodservice offering.”
“Throughout the whole process the team at Penrith have remained loyal to Blakemore’s and are now immensely proud of their improved facility. This will be a fantastic opportunity for caterers and retailers across Cumbria and the Lake District.”
