Industry watchdog The Portman Group is reigniting last year's consumer awareness campaign to encourage the public to name and shame alcoholic drinks in breach of its responsible marketing code.

Advertisements in the national press now urge people to complain at Christmas if they have concerns over any marketing, including names and packaging under the strapline 'All we want for Christmas are your complaints'.

A direct mail campaign will run at the same time, targeting professionals likely to come across ­irresponsible marketing, such as Trading Standards and police licensing ­officers.

Compliance with the Portman Group's Code of Practice on the Naming, Packaging and Promotion of Alcoholic Drinks is mandatory for all UK producers. Its effectiveness was recognised recently by accountants KPMG in a review of industry standards.
