Tesco’s (★ ★ ★ ★ ★) offering had the biggest chunks of meat and fat, but was let down by a dry texture and unpleasant fibrous feel when chewing. The chorizo from Asda (★ ★ ★★ ★) boasted succulent meat, but the fat was rubbery. Morrisons’ (★ ★ ★★ ★) had more of a garlic hit and the meat parts outnumbered the fat. However, several slices were sporting gaping holes, which looked unappetising. The skimpiest slices came courtesy of Waitrose (★ ★ ★ ★ ★) and its satisfyingly chewy texture was spoiled by excessive use of paprika and flavouring. There was a nice balance of paprika and flavouring on Sainsbury's (★ ★ ★ ★ ★), though, which made this the best chorizo on offer by far. Alex Beckett
