Many of the lasagnes on offer were of a similar quality, with the exception of Waitrose’s, (one star out of five) which cooked poorly and was overly watery – and cost a hefty £1.29 more than the other four.

Morrisons’ (two stars) looked the best when cooked – its cheese bubbled nicely, but it tasted somewhat flavourless. Tesco’s offering (two stars) had the least impressive packaging and didn’t have a very strong flavour. Asda, (three stars) however, produced a solid all-round lasagne with a good variety of flavours coming through.

The best of the bunch was Sainsbury's, (four stars) which produced the most meaty and flavoursome offering, even if it didn’t look as good as some of the others.
