Some savoury ready meals contain more sugar than ice cream, according to consumer watchdog Which?

Research by the group found Asda's sticky chilli chicken ready meal contained 19.2g of sugar per 100g and Tesco's crispy beef with sweet chilli sauce ready meal contained 23.1g per 100g. In comparison, supermarket own-label vanilla ice-cream contained 17.9g of sugar per 100g.

“It's no wonder that people are baffled about the amount of sugar they're consuming,” said Neil Fowler, editor of Which? “Although many companies voluntarily label their products, not all do.”
