Considerable interest is being shown in recent offers of pink salmon, resulting from a weakening in dollar prices.

Alaskan packers did not review opening offers as they felt demand from traditional export markets would be strong, but another record pack meant overseas buyers have held back.

An opening price of $13.50 fob for 24x213g has already eased a dollar, encouraging some useful export orders.

UK importers will be looking to work out some deals to promote pinks. Current prices for 213g are 75p for own label and around 89p for brands.

With increased prices from Chile on farmed salmon, Alaskan producers have been able to conclude some limited business in the UK, where some buyers have shown a preference for the wild product.
