New investment in Westbury Dairies by its joint venture owners Dairy Farmers of Britain, First Milk and Milk Link is paying dividends, chairman Sir Ben Gill told The Grocer.
Excellent butter and powder were being produced following installation of new state-of-the-art processing equipment and systems, he said.
Staff numbers had been rationalised and investment in making its direct suppliers more efficient and “butterfat focused” were paying off.
“The business is over budget on its performance, despite currency fluctuations,” said Sir Ben. Milk supplies after CAP reform were a concern, but the outlook for Westbury was good and he ruled out closure during periods of low supply.
