City bookmaker Cantor Index has installed Heineken chief operating officer Marc Bolland as the favourite to fill the Morrisons chief executive position.

Bolland&'s odds are 1/4, followed by Wal-Mart Germany president David Wild priced at 7/4 and Tesco convenience boss Colin Holmes priced at 3/1.

Cantor&'s previous odds leader, outgoing Alliance UniChem chief executive Ian Meakins, reportedly withdrew his candidacy this week, frustrated by the length of the decision-making process.

Cantor is still offering odds on two of the senior management at Morrisons. It retains previously stated odds of 25/1 for both trading and marketing MD Marie Melnyk and store operations director Mark Gunter.

But Cantor&'s David Buik said: &"To dismiss a Tesco candidate may be folly.&"
