There is no doubt public opinion on this is currently strong based on the media frenzy surrounding the issue but its really important that consideration is given to both the actual problem of waste pollution and the implications for change rather than this consumer knee-jerk on plastic. Simply switching to another format does not guarantee a better environmental impact, something those of us in the packaging industry need to consider with each product manufacturer as part of our standard development process. We also need to bear in mind that the real issue is in the infrastructure we need to build, both by investment and by education. Bear in mind plastic or any kind of waste for that matter cannot walk into the sea by itself. An attitude to reduce packaging is good, but focusing public opinion against one material is not the answer. Remember that food waste is a bigger problem than packaging ever will be, then understand the real consequences that not having it would create.
