Interesting article and I really like Pret, but I do not think they have “moved ahead” of regulations. In fact, Pret took a short-term marketing line in defining many products as made in store (when bread was just baked-off - for example) and in over-simplifying their labelling to allow their food (& their brand) less on pack clutter. This came back to haunt the brand’s long-term marketing in the last few months. There may be some best practice in pharma, but I’ve often found colours that would illegal in foodstuffs and well-hidden animal products in medicines … having read some of those enormous bits of paper they tuck inside the box.
