Launching next week at Imbibe Live at London’s Olympia, and appearing in JD Wetherspoon’s Cider Festival in July, this 4% abv flavoured cider comes in a 500ml bottle (rsp: £2.50) and will be available from retailers including Sainsbury’s and M&S. Head cider maker David Sheppy said the flavour had been developed to bring together the “incredible partnership” of cider and elderflower, with the “deep hue and depth of rural flavours” offered by blackberry.


Älska Slim Cans

Älska cider is already available in 500ml glass bottles and has now introduced a 330ml can format (rsp: £5/4-pack) for two flavours - Nordic Berries and Strawberry & Lime. The bottled range includes Lemon & Ginger, Pear & Lychee and Peach & Raspberry. Älska said the cans were targeted at the late night and festival audience.

Friels First Press Vintage Cider

Aston Manor may be best known for Frosty Jack’s but under its upmarket Friels brand it is launching this craft product made from only the first press of Red Falstaff, Katy and Windsor apples, all from the 2014 harvest of Aston Manor’s Worcestershire and Herefordshire orchards. The 7.4% abv cider (rsp: £1.99) will be in Booths from August.

Taking its name from cockney rhyming slang for fermented apple juice, this new business has an innovative raw material source - the back gardens of the populace. It makes all its cider from the surplus fruit grown across the capital. The four varieties - dry, medium dry, crab apple and perry - are being trialled at Budgens Crouch End.
