Emerging markets have helped boost sales at Diageo.
The drinks giant said group organic net sales rose 5% in the three months to 30 September.
Although sales fell by 1% in Europe, with Diageo describing performance in Western Europe as “weak”, sales rose by 2% in Asia Pacific, 11% in Africa and by 16% in Latin America and the Caribbean.
“Diageo has delivered a solid start to the new financial year with net sales growth in line with expectations,” said CEO Paul Walsh.
“The strength of our brands and our routes to market, coupled with the investments we have made in faster growing markets continue to drive the performance of our business.”
