Food price inflation reached 3.7% for the 12 months to mid-April, up from 3.3% in the previous month. Headline inflation for all items was 1.8%. Meat prices in particular have been affected by FMD, but poor growing conditions have hit potatoes and later this year low harvests will hit cereal products. Seasonal food inflation rose to 14.5%. Since Christmas meat prices have risen by an average of 6%. Fresh milk has gone up by around 4%. Tea, sugar, cheese and soft drinks recorded rises around 2%. {{NEWS }}
