Paice was only a few hours into his new job as chairman of First Milk when he sat down to talk to The Grocer at the dairy co-op’s agm in November, and there was no slowly easing himself into his new post. He let rip at rival Arla for stooping to new levels on price to secure a cheese contract with Asda, accusing it of damaging UK dairy by undermining cheese and milk prices for farmers.

Paice also took pot shots at Müller, despite the fact his former colleague Defra Secretary of State Owen Paterson never seems to tire of praising Muller’s Market Drayton plant.
