Richmond will continue to leverage the Nestlé brand as its extends its branded ice creams with one litre tubs of Munchies, After Eights and Yorkie ice cream this year, said chief executive James Lambert. One litre tubs of Smarties, Fruit Pastilles and Rolo ice cream have performed ahead of expectations since their March launch, said Lambert. "We are offering premium quality one litre tubs at £2.79, rather than half litre tubs at £3.79 The whole ice cream market grew about 4% last year and this year we're predicting 6%. So I'm very confident." Sales rose 30% to £42.5m in the six months to March 30 on the back of last year's £9.85m deal to buy Nestlé's UK ice cream business. Although interest charges and integration costs caused a pre-tax loss of £720,000, Richmond posted an operating profit in the traditionally weak first half. {{NEWS }}
