Robert Wiseman Dairies has reported a 6% increase in full-year pre-tax profit to £26.7m.

In the year to end April 1, the dairy group also said that turnover had increased 16.2% to £568.6m.

Volumes of liquid milk sold increased 14.2% during the year to 1.38 billion, while sales volumes for the second half-year were 690 million litres.

The group added that it had secured extra business from Somerfield during the year and from next month would start supplying milk to c-store chain One Stop.

Last week the group also secured planning permission for a new dairy in Bridgwater, Somerset.

Alan Wiseman, chairman of Robert Wiseman Dairies, said: “Given the period of change within the business, we are pleased with the financial results for the group.”

He added: “Against a backdrop of high oil costs, we remain optimistic about the outlook for our business, and look to a period of further stability within the sector and to maintaining the recovery in our operating margins in the period ahead.”
