Australian technology is capable of building a robot strawberry harvester, according to specialist Allan Branch. He told English growers at a soft fruit conference that a prototype costing £125,000 could be operational within a year following enquiries down under. Branch estimates that the machine could work nine times as fast as its human counterpart and cost just £10,000 when in commercial production. He added that the technology already existed to select ripe fruit or those berries with botrytis. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
