The RSPCA has criticised Heinz Tomato Ketchup’s TV ad, which shows a caged guinea pig drinking from a bottle of ketchup instead of water. The ad forms part of the Heinz’s sponsorship deal with ITV soap Emmerdale.
The animal welfare charity is concerned it may encourage copycat incidents by children who keep guinea pigs. It has requested Heinz add an advisory line to say guinea pigs should not be given ketchup instead of water.
