AG Barr has announced double-digit rises in both profits and sales for the past year, buoyed by growth for its Rubicon juice brand.
Pre-tax profits at the Irn-Bru maker were up more than 13% in the year to 29 January, reaching a new high of £31.6m. Sales for the period grew by 10.4% to £222.4m.
The company said sales of Rubicon were now almost double the levels seen before it bought the brand for £61m in 2008. The juice brand is currently sponsoring Sky Sports’ coverage of the Cricket World Cup, being held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
“We have increased investment across the business in our brands, assets and people,” said chief executive Roger White.
“In 2010 we also made significant investments in our operations and supply chain, which will give us the ability to improve service to customers and drive efficiency in the future.”
White warned that the soft drinks sector would continue to face tough trading conditions, but said the first two months of the company’s new financial year were “ahead of the same period last year”.
