The company has added a High-Fibre Rye variant to its bagged rice cakes (rsp: £1.19) and launched Corn Cakes and Multi-Grain Rice Cakes (rsp: 79p), which are available in a new snack pack format.
Interest in the rice cakes category has waned after a strong performance in 2003. According to ACNielsen, sales declined 4.5% year-on-year
compared with a 7% value growth the previous year [Scantrack February 19, 2005].
Ryvita marketing director Rob Murray said: “Expanding our rice cake offering to create a whole range reflects consumer trends for heathier snacking and recognises their need for choice and variety.”
Ryvita is also adding a Worcester Sauce flavour to its Minis range this month (rsp: 49p). The newcomer takes the portfolio to five and joins Cream Cheese & Chive, Garlic & Herb, Mature Cheddar & Onion and Tomato Salsa.
According to Ryvita, Minis has generated sales of £7.6m since its launch last August.
