SABMiller said lager volumes rose 8% across Europe over the summer boosted by strong growth in Russia as well as its acquisition of Italian brewer Peroni.

For the five-month period to August 31, the maker of Castle, Pilsner Urquell, and Nastro Azzurro said total lager sales were up 4%.

But at the group’s US unit Miller Brewing volumes fell 4.5%, with further restructuring initiatives underway to “assist the cost base”.

SABMiller noted that beer sales in El Salvador and Honduras were “subdued” at 3%, while volumes at its fizzy soft drinks business had fallen 8%.
