Price reductions have boosted European lager volumes at SABMiller by 9% in the past six months.
In a trading update for the six months to 30 September, the brewer said domestic volumes in the UK rose 5%, driven by continued growth of Peroni Nastro Azzurro.
It added that growth was “moderate” across most other markets in Europe with volumes up by “low single digits”.
However, in Poland, increased promotional spend, price changes, new launches and Euro 2012 resulted in volume growth of 10%.
Total lager volumes rose 4% during the period, with soft drinks volumes up 6%. Lager volumes also rose 4% in Latin America, by 6% in Africa and by 5% in Asia Pacific.
Group sales rose 8%. “Overall, financial performance for the half year was in line with our expectations,” the company added.
