A Sacla’ sauce is the latest product found to contain Sudan 1, and has been withdrawn.
The company checked the product, which contains turmeric, after the Food Standards Agency identified turmeric as an ingredient that may contain the illegal dye. No other Sacla’ products are affected.
Sacla’, which manufactured the affected leek and saffron sauce in Italy, supplied it through RHM Foodservice solely into foodservice. Commercial director Allen Yheam said because of its limited distribution, the company had been able to recall the product quickly. He added: “After the FSA announcement, we took immediate action to test the only product we sell containing turmeric. Unfortunately it was found to contain Sudan 1.”
