Safeway is introducing specialist wine advisers to 300 of its stores following a successful trial in the south-east of England. They will have responsibility for the beers, wines and spirits section and offer assistance and product knowledge to customers. Their font of knowledge will come from a 12-week training programme developed with Ashford Open Learning and sponsored by leading suppliers. The standard of the course is in line with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Intermediate Certificate, said Safeway. It includes information on food matching and advice on trade jargon. Category operations manager Richard Hayhoe said: "They will be a huge asset to the running of the section and for our customers." {{DRINKS }}
