The retailer has recorded an 8% hike in volume sales of spirits since introducing the new fixtures to 257 stores last month. The bays merchandise spirits, liqueurs and syrups together with glasses, shakers, mixology equipment and a new cocktail book, Cocktails by Sainsbury's (rsp: £3). Ready-made cocktails including Bacardi Mojito and Smirnoff Caprioska are also part of the offer.
"Sales of cocktails in the on-trade have soared recently, so we have an opportunity to develop the market for cocktail-making at home by making it more accessible for customers," said BWS category manager Justin James.
A review will take place this summer before a decision is made about whether to roll the concept into more stores.
