Sainsbury's has poached wine trading manager Dror Nativ from Spar as part of a recruitment drive that will see three new wine buyers join this summer.

Nativ replaces Daniel Bracegirdle as buyer for Australia, New Zealand and wine formats on 30 August, while Julie Buckley will join at the same time from Oddbins as the new Spain, South America, California and seasonal wine buyer.

Last month, buyer David Peek joined from Waverley as buyer for Champagne, sparkling wine, Italy and South Africa.

The three new buyers would put Sainsbury's "in a great place" to continue with the evolution of its wine plans, said category manager Justin James.

Spar was recruiting for both Nativ and former MW Laura Jewell's positions, said Chris Lewis, licensed trade director. Spar had interim cover and was committed to growing its wine business, he added.
