Sainsbury's has reassured consumers that it has no problems with its egg supply despite recent shortages in availability of free-range eggs. The retailer said poor weather and high demand had resulted in gaps in supply, with shortages particularly noticeable following Pancake Day. Industry sources added that the recent positive research on eggs and health had boosted sales before Lent. Sainsbury's said supply would be “back to normal very soon” and insisted there would be no further shortages.
