Food redistribution charity FareShare and Sainsbury’s are hoping to repeat the success of last year’s Million Meals Appeal this weekend by involving all Sainsbury’s stores and asking for online donations.

The two-day drive will see customers in more than 900 Sainsbury’s branches asked to donate store cupboard items such as tinned food and rice at the checkouts to help FareShare feed the 700 charities it serves.

In addition, Sainsbury’s online shoppers will also be given the opportunity to make a £1 donation.

Last year’s appeal helped the charity deliver food to more than 1.2 million people - enough to feed a sold-out olympic stadium 15 times.
