Sainsbury’s has lost Tanya Lawler, its director of digital and cross channel, to online marketplace website eBay.
Lawler, who has worked at Sainsbury’s since November 2007, will join eBay in late autumn as vice president of UK trading.
She joined Sainsbury’s in the then newly-created role of director of online, before moving on to director of direct channels. In June last year, she was named director of digital and cross channel as part of the retailer’s push to allow its shoppers to interact with it in as many ways as possible.
Prior to Sainsbury’s, she was vice president of retail at Capgemini and group commercial director at Argos.
At eBay, Lawler will be responsible for driving the growth of eBay’s seller partners, which include Superdry, Bench, House of Fraser, LK Bennett and Comet, as well as recruiting new ones.
“In her new role, Tanya will help us to ensure that the business and experience of shopping on eBay continue to evolve to meet the demands of the modern shopper,” said Clare Gilmartin, eBay vice president for marketplaces UK & rest of Europe. “eBay is a very different business to the one that launched in the UK over 10 years ago.
“Most items sold on eBay are now sold new and at a fixed price, and the UK is one of eBay’s fastest-growing European markets. Our strategy is to partner, but never compete with the retail industry.”
A Sainsbury’s spokesman said a replacement for Lawler would be announced “in due course”.
