The campaign to encourage consumers to eat 5 a Day is too confusing, claimed a leading salad supplier.
Simon Trewins, business unit director with Dutch grower The Greenery, said a simpler solution would be to urge people to eat a salad a day.
Speaking at the NFU’s Horticulture in Focus conference, Trewins told delegates: “If we’re to encourage a healthier diet, the best way is to keep it simple.
“The 5 a Day campaign is difficult to follow and there’s a vast body of evidence which suggests people do not understand it. Salads offer the most marketable package.”
