Premier Foods has announced a rise on pre-tax profit of 28.9% to £31.2m for the six months to July 3.thanks to strong growth in sauces and pickles.

The company, whose brands include Branston Pickle, Typhoo and Ambrosia, said that sales grew by 14.4% to £425.8m over the same period.

Premier Foods said that the strong performance is due to cost cutting measures combined with the growth in sales.

Like for like grocery sales grew by 2.7%, with the Loyd Grossman brand up 28% and Branston up 11%.

Chief executive Robert Schofield said: “Our brands, scale and efficiency mean we are well positioned to deliver profitable growth and strong cash flow generation to support progressive dividends and complementary acquisitions in the future.”
