Sales of Blavod Black Vodka have risen some 50% but the AIM-listed company is to review its Babco brands such as flavoured schnapps Mickey Finn which have “not performed adequately”.

For the six months to September, the maker of the dyed-black spirit said its pre-tax loss had widened to £492,000 from £458,000 in 2001. Turnover jumped to £634,000 from £275,000.

Blavod said its Babco products such as energy spirit Agwa and tequila cream liqueur TJ Rosas & Limas had gained listings with major off-trade chains but that sales and margins were below expectations.

Chairman Allan Shiach said: “Traditional markets such as UK and duty free continue to grow and whilst it is still too early to predict a final outcome for the current financial year with any certainty, we remain confident of present trends.”
