Cheese products aimed at children are saltier than the Atlantic Ocean, campaign group Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) has claimed.

In a study of 175 cheeses, the group found that Kraft Dairylea Light Cheese Slices contained 2.8g of salt per 100g, while Atlantic seawater contained only 2.5g of salt per 100g.

Graham McGregor, chairman of CASH, said: “Many parents are seduced by the claims that these products contain calcium for strong bones and yet cheddar contains just as much calcium.
