Scottish & Newcastle is confident that it will outperform the UK market, despite a “more challenging trading environment”.

The UK beer market had been weaker than expected in the third quarter, but it had continued to gain share from its competitors, S&N said in a trading update for the nine months to September.

S&N total branded beer and cider volumes in the UK rose by just 0.6% in the third quarter, with S&N's top four brands Foster's, Kronenbourg 1664, John Smith's and Strongbow reporting volume growth of 2%.
