Boots is claiming a first for the own-label lunchtime sector with the launch of a gluten, wheat and dairy-free sandwich.
The chicken salad sandwiches are going into stores now and are part of the chain’s Free From range, which caters for increasing numbers of consumers with special dietary demands or food allergies. The bread is being supplied by Buxton Foods, which said it was suitable for the estimated 250,000 people in the UK with Coeliac disease and up to 15 million people who suffer from a wheat intolerance.
Boots ditched its low-carb sandwiches in May, although the company said its low-carb ambient offerings were still performing well.
