South African brand Savanna Cider is claiming record sales thanks to the World Cup.

The Distell-owned brand said consumers liked its safari-theme bottle idea and that sales were "well above expectations". The introduction of a four-pack format in Aldi was also boosting sales, it claimed.

"As an authentic South African product, we have seen unbelievable interest in the brand as a result of the World Cup," he said.

Growth has also been boosted by Savanna's listings in Sainsbury's and Morrisons in November.
