The Fairtrade Foundation has welcomed Schwartz's move to switch the sourcing of four of its herbs to a Fairtrade farm in Egypt.

The company was previously sourcing its basil, mint and marjoram products from a non-Fairtrade certified supplier in Egypt, but it has teamed up with a new grower to introduce the lines (rsp: £1.23-£1.81 per jar) later this year. The dill was previously supplied from a farmer in Germany but will come from the same Egyptian supplier as the other herbs.

"The quality won't be affected and neither will the rsp," said Anthony Palmer, MD of Schwartz UK.
