Tesco has rolled out an initiative with supplier Greenvale AP to get Scottish new season potatoes in-store within 24 hours of being harvested.

Under the three-week project, which kicked off late last month, potatoes are delivered straight from the farm to a number of Tesco stores around Edinburgh.

All the produce has been sourced from the Stevenson family farm at Luffness Mains in East Lothian. A smaller trial was carried out last year.

"The whole point of new season potatoes is to get them as fresh as you possibly can," said general manager of Greenvale Doug Bell. "And you can't get much fresher than this way."
