Seafood industry support organisation Seafish has announced it will be almost doubling the amount it puts into its Industry Project Fund for 2008.

The scheme, which is in its second year, has a revised budget of £1.2 million, up from the £700,000 previously announced. It has raised the budget following "an overwhelming quantity and quality of applications" for funding.

Seafish is currently involved in 47 projects with a total value of £2.5m that aim to benefit the seafood sector. These include a good practice guide for tuna,

safety training for fishing vessels and research into

discarding.
