Our search for the cream of the UK's cheese retailers resumes in earnest with a host of prizes up for grabs.

The 2008 Retail Cheese Awards, organised by Dairy Crest and The Grocer, will recognise the finest purveyors of cheese in two categories: specialist independents and multiples, and co-ops and symbol group operators with deli counters.

Judges will scour the country for Britain's top cheese talent. They will pose as ordinary shoppers to assess the quality of counter staff and test their knowledge of the products as well as scrutinise the visual quality of the displays.

National winners from each class will be named at a lunch at London's Café Royal on 2 September.

These will take home £2,500 prize money and a silver plaque they can proudly display back in their store.

There are also other regional winners for the north, south and central parts of the UK who will receive £500 prize money and a silver plaque.
